Prayer Guide for June 4th

The following topics and passages are intended to help us pray together on June 4th about the many things that are pressing for the church in our nation and our entire nation.

Prayer Topics

Repentance

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” – 2 Chron. 7:14

For another passage on repentance, see Jas. 4:1-10

Christian Unity

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” – Eph. 4:1-6

For more on the foundation of this unity in Christ, see Jn. 17:20-23; Eph. 2:1-22, 3:14-19

Members of Our Own Church who are Isolated

“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.” – Rom. 12:3-8

Financial Issues

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. “ – Matt. 6:24

For further reading regarding a specific instance of suffering and financial trouble, see Heb. 10:32-39

Racism/Racial Issues

“And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place.” – Acts 17:26

“If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.” – James 2:8-9

For more on all the dignity and fundamental equality of all people as made in the Image of God, see Gen. 1:26-27, 9:6; Ps. 67:1-7, 117:1-2; Rev. 5:9-10

Our African American Brothers and Sister in Christ; Particularly those Pastors and Members of Churches in our Nation’s Large Cities

“If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.” – 1 Cor. 12:26

Our Government Leaders

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. – 1 Tim. 2:1-6

For more on government, see Rom. 13:1-7; 1 Pet. 2:13-17

Coronavirus Pandemic

“So the Lord sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning until the appointed time. And there died of the people from Dan to Beersheba 70,000 men.” – 2 Sam. 24:15

For further consideration, see Rom. 8:18-25

Revival

“And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Now at Iconium they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.” – Acts 13:52-14:1
