Book Review: Five Things To Pray For Your Kids

By Peggy Sue Miller

One area I have desired to grow in over the last few years is prayer, and more specifically, praying the Scripture. There is such encouragement and confidence in praying through God’s Word. I am reminded of the truths I confess (and so easily forget), verbally instructing my thoughts with unchanging absolutes.

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Psalm 103:1–2

I am comforted and satisfied when I turn my thoughts to Christ.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14

And, I am equipped to face what’s ahead as I dwell on the powerful Words and Work of Christ.

This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. Psalm 18:30

I recently began using 5 Things to Pray for Your Kids, by Melissa Kruger. In this little book, Melissa lays out 5 things to pray for within 21 different areas or situations in the life of children and parents. Each prayer suggestion is based on a passage of the Bible. I have found these to be a sweet source for meditation and deeper study, even as I pray through them.

I highly recommend this little book for praying for the kids in your life, as well as growing your love for praying God’s Word!
