Our Only Comfort in Life and Death

Here are a number of further resources, including the first question of the Heidelberg Catechism, a song based on this question, a link to a free download of excerpts from Christian books on anxiety, and a source for an analysis of current news and events from a Christian worldview.

Heidelberg Catechism Q.1

We are planning to utilize this question in our church services over the next few weeks and would encourage you and your family to memorize the question and answer together. Click here to view a document of this question which includes the biblical references on which the answer is founded. We have transposed the question into the plural form so that we can answer together as a church family:

Q. What is our only comfort in life and death?

A. That we with body and soul, both in life and death, are not our own, but belong unto our faithful Saviour Jesus Christ; who, with his precious blood, has fully satisfied for all our sins, and delivered us from all the power of the devil; and so preserves us that without the will of our heavenly Father, not a hair can fall from our heads; yea, that all things must be subservient to our salvation, and therefore, by his Holy Spirit, He also assures us of eternal life, and makes us sincerely willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto him.

Christ Our Hope In Life and Death

This is a wonderful new song by Keith and Kristyn Getty that summarizes and celebrates the truths contained in the answer to the first question of the Heidelberg Catechism.
